Two Years Full Time
The 2-Year Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education (HDECE) is a pre-service training programme aiming to nurture quality early childhood professionals who will gain all 4 ECE qualifications in Hong Kong, eligible to work as Registered Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau (EDB), Child Care Workers/Supervisors and Special Child Care Workers with the Social Welfare Department (SWD).
The HDECE programme also prepares students for YCCECE’s Bachelor’s Degree programme and any ECE related Bachelor’s Degree programmes at overseas universities.
With effect from 1 September 2021, YCCECE became the first private self-financing institution with Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status for the programme area “Early Childhood Education & Early Childhood Education Services” at Higher Diploma level (i.e. QF Level 4) and below for a period up to 31 August 2026 academic year. The PAA status entails YCCECE to self-quality assure its QF Level 4 programmes (and below) without the need for external accreditation.
Provides ample opportunities for students to practise and raise their English proficiency which gives them a competitive edge for further study or employment.
HDECE students will have practicum opportunities in selected premium international and local kindergartens, including exclusive placement at Yew Chung International School (kindergartens).
Students will have the opportunities to be taught by world-class visiting scholars and to attend international conferences to broaden their global perspectives in ECE.

The Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Early Childhood Education (BEdECE) programme aims to nurture world-class early childhood educators who are knowledgeable in contemporary and international ECE theories and practices and can be strong advocates for children and their families.
The BEdECE programme is a multi-entry programme, students can entry the programme at first year or third year, it provides great flexibility to students and supports those who pursue lifelong learning.
Those requiring pre-service training will acquire all four (4) ECE Professional Qualifications in Hong Kong, enabling them to be registered with the Education Bureau (EDB) and Social Welfare Department (SWD). Those who are already ECE practitioners in the field can also pursue in-service training via a top-up degree (Year 3 entry), paving the way towards Kindergarten Principal certification.
All programmes are taught in English, except for selected courses that offer Chinese stream. It provides ample opportunities for students to practise and raise their English proficiency which gives them a competitive edge for further study or employment.
Besides the general ECE concentration, full-time BEdECE students will select their specialisation from the four concentrations when they enter to Year 2. Students will take four courses in their chosen concentrations.
This aims to strengthen their expertise in a particular subject, give them competitive edge for employment when they graduate, and paves their way to becoming ECE experts.

The 8-week Practicum and 8-week Advanced Practicum provide opportunities for students to be placed in different Early Childhood Education settings to polish observation and hands-on skills.
Students have the opportunities to conduct their Practicum in international kindergartens, local kindergartens, or kindergartens in special education settings.
Leverageing the strong Yew Chung Yew Wah network, students of YCCECE have the exclusive opportunity to have their Practicum in Yew Chung International School.
Students in their final year will take the Capstone Project in the last term of the Programme. The Project will be conducted in an early childhood education setting where they will be engaged in in-depth action research on real-life ECE-related issues. Students may choose different ECE settings such as schools, children hospitals, non-government organisations etc.

Eligibility
(i) Attained “3322” in HKDSE when they are enrolled in eligible self-financing first-year-first degree programmes; or
(ii) Attained Grade E in at least 2 AL subjects or equivalent (1 AL counted as 2 AS-Level subjects) and Grade E in Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture in HKALE when they are enrolled in eligible self-financing first-year-first degree programmes; or
(iii) Attained sub-degree qualifications (after completing locally-accredited sub-degree programmes in relevant disciplines) when they are enrolled in eligible self-financing top-up degree programmes.
Students holding a student visa or an entry permit issued by the Immigration Department for entry to Hong Kong for the purpose of education are not eligible for the non-means-tested annual subsidy.
