Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education(YCCECE) organized a rich and diverse study tour for the educators from Rise Education, Suzhou, China. At the opening ceremony, Professor Kerry Lee, President, shared insights on the uniqueness of Hong Kong and expressed gratitude to Rise Education for choosing YCCECE for this learning experience. Dr Frank Lam, Vice President (administration), emphasized the blending of Eastern and Western cultures in Hong Kong and the importance of family education. Assistant Professor Dr Crystal Zheng introduced the College’s educational philosophy and shared the teaching method of “believing in children and respecting children”, highlighting the importance of respecting and addressing each child’s unique developmental needs.
On the following day, Dr Serena Liu elaborated the unique Yew Chung Approach to Early Childhood Education—“The 12 Values,” covering aspects such as educational philosophy, curriculum design, and teacher training, and stressing the importance of practical execution. Ms Joey Chan provided scientific methods for analyzing children’s behavior, such helps enhance educators' ability to tackle children's behavioral issues in class. In the afternoon, the study group visited the College's living laboratory -- the Pamela Peak Discovery Space (PPDS) and experienced STEM-themed activities centered around “learning through play,” gaining hands-on experience and better understanding of Yew Chung Approach to Early Childhood Education, particularly the techniques on how to guide children’s exploration and learning-through-play.
On 6 November, they went on a field trip to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, which provided a rich cultural exploration experience titled "A Day in the Forbidden City." The activity was guided by Dr Hui Ching, Director of the College's Mengxue Institute. Dr Hui led the group through the museum's invaluable heritage and treasures, encouraging deep reflection on cultural differences across time and space. This ignited curiosity and profound thinking among all participants.
In the afternoon, the study group visited Yew Chung International School (Preschool Section), where they were divided into three groups for in-depth observation and exchange. During this time, they explored how courses are designed based on children’s interests and engaged in creative activities across different classrooms, focusing on tools, light and shadow, and animals, the day concluded with a tour of Yew Chung International School (YCIS), where participants experienced the innovative concept of flexible learning spaces and the diverse curricula offered to students.
On the final day, the study group focused on the theme of “Home-School Collaboration.” Ms Ivy Li and Ms Payal Mansukani led an inspiring workshop on effectively promoting communication and cooperation between families and schools, aiming to create a shared educational vision that supports children’s holistic development.
Following this, Dr Melinda Wang presented advanced theories on language learning, sharing effective methods for enhancing young children’s English proficiency through home-school collaboration and emphasizing the importance of a cooperative educational model.
At the closing ceremony, Dr Frank Lam, Vice President (Administration), awarded certificates to the participants, bringing the event to a successful conclusion amid enthusiastic exchanges and reflections.
