The project funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to implement exploratory learning in early childhood education launched its second phase, which targeted to benefit 14,000 children and parents.
The Jockey Club 'CoolPlay' Project, funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and co-organized by Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education and the Vocational Training Council, has offered child-centric teaching resource kits, training and support to local early childhood educators and parents.
After achieving exceptional results in phase 1 since its launch in 2020, the four-year new phase will be scaled up and aims to extend exploratory learning from individual schools to the entire community, helping the grass-roots communities in seven districts including Kwun Tong, Kwai Ching, Wong Tai Sin, Northern District, Sam Shui Po, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. The goals include providing enriched learning resources for children's exploration and fostering proactive exploration in daily life to inspire their interest in exploration through play, while equipping teachers and parents with the necessary resources and training.
The expanded project will benefit 240 principals, 1,400 teachers, 440 student teachers, and more than 14,000 children and their families.
Phase 2 of the project will also feature upgraded content. A new series of teaching resources and material kits will be added to the JumpStarter kit to enable parents and children to explore easily at home.
An online version of JumpStarter will allow parents and teachers personalize learning resources based on children's needs, while all-new family engagement will bring parents and children into broader community settings for exploration.
