On 22 August 2024, at the International Conference on High-Quality Development of Preschool Education in the 2024 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (2024 CAECW), Professor Shi Ping from the Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) delivered a public lecture on "Exploring and Practising Kindergarten Self-Evaluation".
The 2024 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week in Gui'an New Area, southwest China's Guizhou Province on 21 August 2024. Themed "Deepening Educational Cooperation, Promoting Cultural Exchange, and Co-Creating the Future", this year's event hosts over 70 activities, showcasing the new achievements in China-ASEAN educational exchange and cooperation, as well as sharing experiences and outcomes in higher education, vocational education, basic education, special education, and lifelong education, in order to better serve cultural exchange, deepen educational cooperation, and promote regional economic and social development.
In her presentation, Professor Shi Ping called for greater recognition of the professional development teachers, which can be gained through continuous self-evaluation and the process of reflective problem-solving. The core of this capacity lies in teachers' respect and observation of children, and their ability to adapt their own practices through self-reflection. This enables teachers to engage in autonomous and proactive learning, not only by learning from books and others but also through the process of self-examination as part of their professional development. The report illustrates this point with real stories from kindergartens, demonstrating a positive exploration of the enhanced self-evaluation requirements outlined in the 'Kindergarten Care and Education Evaluation Guidelines’.
Professor Shi Ping stated, “Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education, founded by Yew Chung Education Foundation with 90 years of history, is a higher education institution with the qualification to confer bachelor's degrees in Hong Kong. It has a rich foundation in practice, teaching, and research in early childhood and international education. We have learned a lot through participating in the China-ASEAN education cooperation week, and we believe we can make even greater contributions in the future.”
This year's event is co-hosted by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, as well as the provincial government of Guizhou. The China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, which was first held in 2008, has developed into a high-end platform and bridge making positive contributions to China-ASEAN relations.
