On 25 February 2025, the YCCECE Alumni Relations Office and Student Development Office successfully co-hosted a special screening of “The Way We Talk” at Emperor Cinemas, THE SOUTHSIDE. The event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including Lee Hysan Scholars, students, alumni, lecturer, staff, board of governors, donors, members of the Wofoo Leadership Network, and The Warehouse Teenage Club, for an inspiring and thought-provoking afternoon.
The filming of this meaningful movie was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Lee Hysan Foundation, one of YCCECE's valued donors. The film offered an immersive experience into the culture of the deaf community—a world unfamiliar to many in attendance. The movie provided a unique perspective on the lives of three deaf adults. Through their shared bond of sign language, the three friends navigated life's challenges while expressing their desire for equality and mutual understanding.
Following the screening, we were honoured to have special guest Ms. Bernice Quark lead a touching post-event activity. She taught participants how to sign the song “You Are the Reason” in sign language. This heartfelt session allowed everyone to experience the beauty and emotion of signing firsthand, leaving a lasting impression on all.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated, your presence and engagement made the afternoon truly special.
