In the morning of 1st December, many “little dinosaurs” gathered at YCCECE Tin Wan Campus waiting for the Dinosaur Charity Run 2024 to start off. This is the third time YCCECE hosted this annual flagship fundraising event to raise funds for YCCECE scholarships. We successfully raised near HKD 1 million with special thanks to donors who sponsored packages for needed families to participate this meaningful event.
Nearly 400 participants joined, which was twice as many as last year. On the day, our Yew Chung Leaders also ran as dinosaurs to raise funds for YCCECE. Dinosaur Run continued to be the most favourite activity among families this year, top three runners of their age group were awarded a YCYW limited edition Monopoly board game. Many other “little dinosaurs” also overachieved and completed all 15 dino-themed challenges and received dinosaur golden medal to became Dinosaur Experts of the Year.
Our theme for the event is “Explore the World of Greenery with Fun”. The Green board games booth ran by current YCCECE students were popular among young kids. One of the boardgames were published by YCCECE students and sponsored by CLP which inspired children how to reduce waste, conserve energy and save the Earth. CLP also attended the event, the CLP Green Studio bus showed a video to the kids with a 3D adventure experience to save the world through sustainable acts, and the CLP Carbon Reduction Game booth encouraged children to actively reduce carbon usage in daily life.
YCCECE students also ran the Lego dinosaur corner where our College lecturer was able to give tips to parents about how to educate a child who learns better with hands on skills. In another corner, an artistic talented YCCECE student painted unique dinosaur rider portraits for the kids. The alumni booth, "Love Shows, Love Grows," featured two exciting elements. The first element invited participating children to use various art tools to express their creativity around the concept of love. The second element involved selling planting kits, encouraging kids to take care of plants by sowing seeds, watering, and nurturing them. This initiative aimed to cultivate kindness in the children while also raising funds for scholarships.
The College also hosted booths by our lecturers and research project teams. The library featured the Readosaurus Readathon, where our College borrowed numerous dinosaur picture books on show for the children to learn how to read for fun while enjoying face paint. The Mengxue Institute offered two shows on “Three Little Pigs” shadow puppets and “The 13th Chinese Zodiac” Show to experience traditional Chinese cultural shows. The Coolplay team offered Dino STEM Fossil Dig for children to learn how have a taster being an archaeologist excavating fossils.
We are also grateful for our event partners support, such as Venture Studios offered a photo booth for families to dress up as dinosaurs and take a memorable family portrait, we are also grateful for their donation proceeds that goes to the College supporting our great cause. Another highlight is Ivan Gor Gor Exotic Animals Experience where families were able to handle and interact with real reptiles, e.g. snakes, lizards, turtles, etc. Supported by our Lecturers, the Playhouse offered six art-creation dinosaur themed games for the participants to unleash their artistic creativity.
We worked with Carbon Linking to create an app game for the event that educated children about low-carbon lifestyles through technology and play. The “Dinotopia Adventure” game invited families and children to explore each booth while embarking on a mission to save the Dino Friends and restore the Crystal of Green Balance. Families shared countless happy memories in the app, filing it with heartwarming posts that showcased their excitement and engagement across the YCCECE booths. The first ten families to complete the app game rescue received a dinosaur stamp cover published by HK Post.
Mrs Kiki Yeung, mother of a 4-year-old boy, said "My family attended the YCCECE Dinosaur Charity Run 2024, the meaningful event was full of educational games spread over the entire College supported by the students and professors. While my child was building a Lego dinosaur in one of the booths, I shared with the YCCECE Lecturer that my son struggles with homework but is good with building things. The Lecturer explained that there are different types of learners, and my son seems to learn better in handicrafts so we should structure his learning in hands-on way. I am so grateful of this new perspective and tips on how to better educate my child."
Ms Winnie Ho, Director of Institutional Advancement & Marketing, said “Through our collective efforts, we have successfully raised nearly HKD 1 million, which will be going towards addressing the crucial scholarship and bursary needs of our students. Once again, we express our deepest gratitude for the unwavering generosity and steadfast commitment of our participants, individual donors, and corporate sponsors to our cause.”
We sincerely invite you to continue supporting our mission as we are committed to pursuing excellence in education and nurturing future teachers and leaders.
Thank you once again for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at our future events!
