Founder's Day commemorates our founder, Madam Tsang Chor-hang.
Madam Tsang Chor-hang, affectionately called "Hau Cheung Po Po", established the first Yew Chung school in Hong Kong, China in 1932. With her unique perseverance and talent, she devoted her life to education, as a mission for "honouring China".
Each year in October, schools across the Yew Chung Yew Wah Education Network organise activities to honour the educational vision and contributions of "Hau Cheung Po Po".
After the morning ceremony, the staff and students continued the celebration with traditional health activities. The students were divided into teams to participate in events organized by the College, including K-pop, yoga, and kickboxing, enjoying a joyful afternoon together.
Since 2020, YCYW has established the "Alumni Hall of Fame" to recognize graduates who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Awards for the Hall of Fame are presented on “Founder’s Day” during the ceremony.
Today, our staff and students celebrated Founder’s Day via video livestream from the campus. Dr Lydia Chan, YCCECE’s Council Chairperson, and President Professor Allan Yuen presented the award to Dr Mengran Liu, the 2024 recipient of YCYW Alumni Hall of Fame. Dr Liu completed her Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education at YCCECE (formerly known as Yew Chung Community College) in 2018, then obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, before returning to serve as an Assistant Professor in YCCECE.
